4 Tips to Boost the Morale of Your Designers
4 Tips to Boost the Morale of Your Designers
If you are running a graphic design company or a business organization that has a whole department with designers, then you should know how to take care of them. A designer’s job is very specific and unique and this is why you must approach them differently than the rest of your employees, if you want them to give you great results.
It’s important to enhance your team’s morale. Business organizations that look to take care of their employees are proven to be more successful. You can’t just push your employees to work harder and better without giving them anything in return. Now, someone is going to say “well I give them money for their work”, but it’s absolutely wrong to look at it this way.
Happy employees who feel appreciated will always try to do their best, and if their motive is solely money, you can expect to get bad results and a careless atmosphere in your office and no serious design company wants that.
1. Give them creative tasks
The first thing you need to know is that designers are not tools. Sometimes it might seem like their work is repetitive and boring, but this is not true at all. Designers feel like they are artists and they always want to try and do something new.
When a designer gets to do something that he or she has done hundreds of times before, that employee will look to finish it like a robot. They will look to finish the task as quickly as possible and hope that they get something that’s actually interesting later.
Designers need to use their creativity. They chose this career because like to express themselves, and this is something you should have in mind when assigning tasks.
2. Take time to creatively celebrate accomplishments
As I have mentioned, you have a creative environment with many designers working for you, and this means that all of the celebrations for your accomplishments are bound to be creative as well. It’s very important that all of you celebrate when you have accomplished something as a team or one of your designers did something amazing.
When you publicly acknowledge someone’s success, it means a lot to them and it will mean a lot to your whole team. Others in your team will realize that hard work pays off.And the person will be motivated to do even better in the futuregiven that his or her achievements are truly appreciated.
3. Give them training opportunities
There is no set-in-stone definition of what creative graphic design is. In order for a designer to get to the highest level and stay there, he or she needs to be active in developing their skills and sharing knowledge with other professionals in their field.
Apart from working regularly, designers also need to have an opportunity to be involved in development programs. Take your designers to seminars, conferences, meetings and other development programs, where they can feel like at home and where they will be surrounded with experts who are better at them in their work.
A professional graphic design company will look to train their designers on a regular basis and give them the opportunity to learn more and never stagnate. Not only will this boost their morale, but they will also be more loyal, and on top of that, they will gain skills and knowledge that will stay in your company.
4. Listen to their ideas
Listen to what your designers have to say. Value their opinions and ask them to give you feedback. Like I’ve mentioned before, designers who work for you are not just tools you use to get something done. They are so much more, and if you listen to them, they will give you amazing ideas for your projects and even help you deliver better designs to your customers.
When you ask for their opinion you will immediately boost their morale. Designers want to have a say in the matter, so that they can feel a certain level of creative freedom. If you just put assignments on their desk without asking them anything or discussing any ideas with them, they might feel useless and helpless.
Conclusion
Always remember that designers do creative work and because of this, they need to be in a good state in order to give you amazing products. This is why you need to do everything you can to boost their morale and motivate them to do better. In the end, with a bit more of work put in around your team, you will ensure a healthy business where everything is of the highest quality.
